Children’s Cookbooks

Do your children like to help in the kitchen?  Why not (with your help) let them cook the family dinner?  The library has a wide variety of children’s cookbooks with simple recipes.  Some of our books contain recipes from around the world. We also have literary cookbooks so you can make dinner to go along with reading.  For the truly brave, we have a Fear Factor Cookbook.  For you campers, we have Cooking on a Stick: Campfire Recipes for Kids. Stop in and check one out.  Let us know what you made.

These cookbooks are also great for the novice cook (like myself!)

AARP Defensive Driving Course

New at the Library

Our new Lumina Lectern is ready for action! A gift of the Birnbaum Family in fond memory of long-time Orangeburg Library Trustee Harold Birnbaum, this handsome piece will add considerable style and panache to our programs.

The lectern will have its inaugural on Monday afternoon (March 26) at 1PM when Irene Wisoff steps behind it to present Acknowledging Great Women: The Art of Georgia O'Keeffe.

Race to Nowhere: Sunday @ 4PM

Race to Nowhere is an award-winning documentray film that highlights the unintended consequences of our pressure-cooker culture and education system. The film is being shown this Sunday (4:00PM at the Dolce Palisades | IBM Center on 9W).

Tickets are $10 in advance (purchase online at http://rtnpalisadesny.eventbrite.com) or $15 at the door. Proceeds will help fund the Orangetown Libraries Summer Reading Programs.

Top–of-the–Stairs Gallery

March – Seventeen year-old Alexa Kastan of Montvale, NJ has been weaving since she was 13 having learned her craft at summer camp. Alexa displays her cotton woven works of art and knitted animals in a special exhibit of “Texture, Design and Aesthetic Expression.”

The Art of Georgia O’Keeffe

MONDAY, March 26 from 1:00 PM
The brilliant art historian from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Irene Wisoff, will be discussing one of the world’s great female artists, Georgia O’Keeffe. From her early landscapes of the West to her large images of stylized flowers, Ms. O’Keeffe created exotic paintings of animal bones, geological formations and adobe architecture. Find out about her life, her marriage to photographer Alfred Steiglitz, and how her personal and spiritual images became American icons.

Shalom Aleichem : The Jewish Mark Twain Spins a World of Humor

Fall into the world of wit and amazement when Bob Spiotto, Artistic Director of the Hofstra Community Arts Program, re-creates the character of Shalom Aleichem in “Shalom Shalam.” The legendary Shalom Aleichem was the literary storyteller of the Jewish people and playwright of the stories that led to the successful “Fiddler on the Roof.” Hear these stories come alive in this acclaimed “one-man show.”

A Celebration of Black History Month

Performers Kim and Reggie Harris present a concert of songs, stories and narratives about slavery and the quest for freedom entitled Music and the Underground Railroad. They reveal the hope, the power and eventually the triumph shared by people of many races. Through sing-a-longs, audience involvement and a multi-media presentation, Music and the Underground Railroad provide an understanding of the secrets and passion of this powerful era. This event is a collaboration of the Adult and Youth programmers and is perfect for Adults and children of school age.
